Israeli Attack Demands Investigation, Alleges Al Jazeera Cameraman’s Life

The unfortunate murder of an Al Jazeera cameraman in an Israeli strike has led to requests for an investigation. According to the Network, an Israeli attack on a school in Gaza that was housing displaced persons resulted in the death of an Al Jazeera cameraman and the injuries of the Chief Correspondent for Gaza.

Early in the morning, while at the Farahana School in Khan Yunis, in the southern city, cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa and correspondent Wael al-Dahdouh were victims of the strike. Reporters said that while they were there, an Israeli drone struck the school once more.

In a statement, Al Jazeera asserted that “the network holds Israel responsible for systematically targeting its journalists and their families, aiming to silence and kill them deliberately.”

Samer was injured, and he bled for over five hours without receiving vital medical attention because Israeli forces blocked ambulances and emergency personnel from getting to him. As per the report by the Network, Dahdouh incurred injuries on his upper arm and managed to make it to Nasser Hospital, where he was treated for minor wounds.

The journalist disclosed that Al Jazeera’s team was alongside civil defence emergency personnel throughout the tragedy. The journalist’s wife, son, daughter, and grandchild were killed in an Israeli airstrike in October.

Al Jazeera’s Managing Editor, Mohammed Muaawad, commended the cameraman on Twitter, writing:

“The dedication of our team has left indelible imprints on our team, telling the truth and narrating the story.”

The confrontation was reported to the General Assembly by Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, who said that Israel “targets those who can document their crimes and alert the world, particularly journalists.”

The battle between Hamas and Israel has claimed the lives of 64 journalists, including three Lebanese, four Israeli, and 57 Palestinians, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Abu Daqqa is the 64th journalist to die in this conflict.

International authorities have been urged by the CPJ to look into the situation thoroughly in order to make sure that “those responsible are held accountable.”
